Grace Notes
The Quest
I have recently enjoyed re-reading some beautiful old classics by several great people of faith from ages past. One of my favorites that I have been delving into is The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer. It is not a book that can be read quickly, nor lightly. It requires a slow, gradual read which encourages one to pause and reflect.
Flowers, Butterflies & Sunsets
In today’s downsized, economized, lowest-bid-gets-the-job society, it seems interesting that we have elements like flowers, butterflies and sunsets in our world. Why did God choose to make them? When He created the world out of nothing, He could have chosen vegetation without blooms, brown and black insects to further the ecosystem and colorless clouds to end each day. But He went out of His way to add unique touches of His hand – to add interesting shapes and creative hues to brighten our world. Color was clearly a priority!
Celebrate Grace
I awoke to the sun peeking out around the mountains, reminding me that Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Today is the most glorious day of the year in Christianity. Today we celebrate grace — the immeasurable gift of God — given freely, out of love, to bring us salvation and new life through Christ. Death has been conquered once, for all, by the atoning blood of Jesus.
Where is God?
We need to learn to look through spiritual eyes and listen with spiritual ears. We will see Him. He is here.
Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda
Regret is one life’s darkest emotions. It grips our mind and heart about what might have been. Regret focuses on the past—it launches a whole series of feelings that begin with looking over our shoulders at yesterday…
Helpful Lists
I am a list maker. I love lists. I cannot function without lists of things to do at work and home, and I plan vacation travel by making lists of activities to enjoy. Sometimes my lists drive other people crazy, but they don’t have to read my lists — I create them for my eyes and no one else.
When No Words Come
Have you ever been so overwhelmed with emotion that you can’t think straight? I have. It is very frustrating. When something distressing hits me hard and suddenly, I feel like a kid on the playground whose stomach just got slammed by a kickball.
Broken Roads
After many years of being a fan of folk and rock music, I have recently begun to enjoy country music as well. The lyrics are what I love about country songs — they always grip me and pull me in.
